Why did Draco Malfoy save Harry Potter

HP-FC Lexicon

Draco Malfoy was born on June 5, 1980, the only child of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. He grew up in a magnificent mansion (Malfoy Manor) in Wiltshire that has been in the family for many centuries. He comes from a pure-blooded, very influential magical family who attach great importance to the bloodline and high reputation. His childhood and youth were marked by a mood of regret that the Dark Lord had failed to take power. It was clear to Draco early on that he could only reveal his family's attitudes to a small circle so that "Daddy would not get into trouble."

He has white blond hair, light gray eyes and a very pale complexion. in the
the same year Harry Potter started school, he belongs to the Slytherin family,
just like his ancestors did. He has a 10 inch long, quite springy wand made of hawthorn wood with a core of unicorn hair.
He is a deceitful boy who likes to play with his relationships, or those of his father, and likes to surround himself with admirers or so-called friends who are always exploited and in his shadow. Even before he went to school, he was friends with the children of several Death Eaters whom he knew through his father.

At the beginning of the first year of school, even before that, while shopping for school supplies in Diagon Alley, he meets Harry Potter and offers him his friendship, which is only an advantage due to his great position in the magic society. In addition, Draco Malfoy suspected when he got to know Harry that Harry was a great black magician because he had succeeded in defeating the Dark Lord. His father would like a friendship with this boy very much, for this reason he tried to win Harry's friendship on the Hogwarts Express. But he has no chance with Harry and since their first day of school on September 1, 1991, the two have been archenemies. Draco is mostly jealous of Harry, because although he never sought fame, Harry was the boy most liked and adored in school. Draco grew up believing he was royalty, so Harry's position should be his.

Draco, always flanked at school by the giants Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle, never misses an opportunity to portray the Slytherin house, and above all himself, as better than anything else. He curses Muggle-born students, particularly Hermione Granger, as "Mudbloods" who don't deserve to be taught at Hogwarts. Furthermore, he mocks all members of the Weasley family because of their poverty and also likes to make fun of Harry's colleague Neville Longbottom, who is pure-blood but very clumsy.
Draco Malfoy is close to the Slytherin Head of House, Severus Snape, thanks to family contacts and is always preferred by him.
In the sophomore year he becomes the seeker of the Slytherin Quidditch team and gives each team member a "Nimbus 2001" racing broom, making them the best-equipped school team. In addition, he is happy about the attacks of the monster from the "Chamber of Secrets" and obviously regrets that he does not know the perpetrator, otherwise he would say thank you for cleaning the school from all unworthy people.

In the third year of school he causes Hagrid, a gamekeeper and since 1993 professor of the care of magical creatures, to be suspended for some time. The reason for this was a severe arm injury by a hippogriff in class. However, Draco Malfoy did not tell that he had not followed the instructions of the half-giant and that he had provoked the animal.
In the fifth year he is promoted to the Slytherin Prefect and later in the school year he is part of the Inquisition Command founded by Dolores Umbridge.
In the summer of 1996 he joins the Death Eaters and has to work out and carry out a plan on behalf of Voldemort that aims to kill Dumbledore. During this time he suffers a lot from the great pressure that weighs on him. He wants to prove himself at the same time and refuses any help from Severus Snape. It is also known that he received lessons in Legili and Occlumency from his aunt Bellatrix Lestrange and is very good at it.
At the end of the sixth year he manages to let a delegation of Death Eaters into Hogwarts and personally disarm Dumbledore.
In the coming school year he will no longer attend Hogwarts, but will only work for Lord Voldemort as a Death Eater. However, he lacks the fervor of other followers. In the last battle in the summer of 1998, his archenemy Harry Potter saved his life.

After the fall of Lord Voldemort, his family again manages to escape Azkaban or other severe punishments through relationships.
19 years later, it is known that he is married to the pure-blood Astoria Greengrass and has a son named Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy with her. He starts school at Hogwarts the same year as Potter's second son Albus Severus and Weasley's Rose.

Draco's first name, like the first names of his maternal relatives, is derived from constellations. In Greek mythology, an evil dragon was banished to the sky by a deity and from then on existed only as a constellation.
His last name comes from Old French and can be translated into German as “malice”.
