Why is Ikes Place so popular

IKEA Place: Bringing furniture into the home using augmented reality

In contrast to virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (augmented reality) does not create a new environment, but rather virtual components are transferred to the real world and placed as realistically as possible. IKEA has recently discovered the technology for itself and published an app (IKEA Place) with which users can initially place around 2,000 such components, which are of course sofas, armchairs and other pieces of furniture, in their own living room. The objects should be displayed three-dimensionally and - with an accuracy of 98 percent - true to scale on your own smartphone display. With the help of an optical search function, IKEA furniture or similar pieces of furniture are suggested. The generated image can then be saved as a photo or video and sent to family and friends via social networks such as WhatsApp or Instagram.

For Android users

The AR-Core-Kit from Google serves as the basis for the Android app from IKEA Place. The 25 megabyte application can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and requires Android version 7.0 or higher.

For iOS users

IKEA Place for iOS is based on the iOS AR standard AR kit and can currently be downloaded from the Apple App Store. Another requirement for the app is an update to the new iOS 11 operating system.
