Entry into the delivery business with external partners

Panera expands its delivery business.

The American bakery-café chain Panera Bread has been offering its guests its own delivery service since 2016. Now the company is expanding its delivery options. In the future, orders can also be placed via the external providers Grubhub, Doordash and Uber Eats.

At the same time, Panera is continuing its own delivery program via the Panera app and the e-commerce platforms. Regardless of which supplier customers order from, their orders will be delivered by Panera's own delivery drivers in most markets. Through the new partnerships, the brand aims to offer its guests more options while ensuring the quality of the Panera delivery experience.

"Panera was one of the first fast-casual concepts to offer its own delivery service. Thanks to the partnerships, we are once again pioneers," said Dan Wegiel, Head of EVP for growth and strategy at Panera. "This new cooperation is possible because we already have a fleet of drivers and the right infrastructure with which we can cope with increased demand." The makers are convinced that this partnership model will further differentiate themselves from the competition and further increase the already successful delivery business.

Platform-independent rewards

The brand is currently working on linking its customer loyalty program My Panera with orders on the websites of external partners. In the future, customers who order via Grubhub, Doordash and Uber Eats will be able to collect rewards for every order on these platforms as well.
