Magikarp is a type of Pokémon, which has existed since the 1st generation. It is the pre-development of Gyarados.
Magikarp are medium-sized, fish-like Pokémon with bodies colored red-orange and divided into three sections by two black lines. The upper part of the pectoral fins and the front part of the caudal fin are also colored red-orange. The rest of the two pectoral fins and the crescent-shaped caudal fin are white. You can also see two fin rays here. Magikarp has a yellow ventral fin with three points and a yellow pectoral fin with four points. Karpador's head stands out slightly from the rest of the oval body. Behind the head section you can still see five scales on both sides. Karpador's face consists of two large round eyes with white leather skin and black pupils and a mouth with pink lips. To the left and right of the mouth there are two very long barbels that are yellow in males and white in females.
Magikarp in their iridescent variant have a golden body color.
Magikarp are very weak and sluggish and are easily swept away even in a weak current. These Pokémon are therefore considered to be the weakest and most pathetic Pokémon in the world. Therefore Magikarp are also seen as unreliable and one should never put much hope in these Pokémon. However, the primeval ancestors of these Pokémon are said to have been quite strong. It is unclear why Magikarp became so weak and how they managed to survive. However, they are very robust and can survive in any water, no matter how contaminated. These Pokémon also don't care if they live in a sea, river, lake, or puddle.
Magikarp jumps out of the water with a splash or a spring for no reason, although they can jump high, but not higher than two meters. Only a few older specimens are even able to jump over mountains with one jump. The careless splashing around makes Magikarp easy prey for hungry Pokémon such as Tauboga and thus lifesavers. However, Magikarp are not critically endangered. Because they multiply incredibly quickly. Therefore, you come across these Pokémon more often than you would like. Their strange behavior has stimulated many a scientist to research.
Magikarp are very widespread in numerous regions of the Pokémon world and distributed in large populations, where they are very often hooked on the fishing rod or the professional fishing rod. You can find them in all possible waters, as they have no special requirements. Magikarp can be found in salt and fresh water as well as in lakes in the open air or in caves. Some people breed Magikarp to trick other unsuspecting buyers into Magikarp.
Attacks and abilities
Magikarp can only learn five different attacks in total. From birth they only mastered splashes. More experienced Magikarp can also attack with tackle and flail. Magikarp can also learn the spring and hydraulic pump via TM, TP or attack teacher.
Magikarp usually take advantage of their regular Water Speed Rain ability and then battle their opponents at double speed. However, few specimens have the Hidden Ability Rabbit Foot instead. Because Magikarp do not like to fight because of their low strength. Particularly fearsome opponents scare them, why -, - and -Attacks increase your initiative by one level.
